Welcome to Great Lakes Skate – “The Skate” – a new website dedicated to covering hockey in Michigan and beyond. Created by longtime hockey journalist and photographer Michael Caples, The Skate aims to celebrate and promote Michigan’s hockey players and its hockey community.
The Skate is built alongside Take Your Shot Photography, a hockey-focused photo service offering action and team/individual photography.
Michael Caples
Michael Caples is the founder and editor of Great Lakes Skate. A longtime hockey journalist and photographer, Caples spent 10 years as the editor of Michigan Hockey Magazine and MiHockey.com after getting his professional journalism start as a staff writer for the Detroit Red Wings. A contributing writer and photographer for various entities including the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association, USA Hockey and USA Hockey's National Team Development Program and more, Caples is also the owner of Take Your Shot Photography, a hockey-focused photo company servicing players and teams of all ages and skill levels.
Kyle Kujawa
Kyle Kujawa is a contributing writer for Great Lakes Skate. A longtime veteran of the hockey media community in Michigan, Kujawa spent nine seasons with the Detroit Red Wings as a member of the team's public relations department, after spending three years with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
